Jesus's death and resurrection

The Pharisees interrogate Jesus. The Pharisees interrogate Jesus. The Pharisees often asked Jesus difficult questions. They were trying to make him say something that was against Jewish law so that he could be arrested. Each time Jesus would calmly respond, often quoting their own Scriptures. They could find nothing to use against him. Many of the Jewish religious officials were opposed to Jesus. They did not believe the things he said and accused him of blasphemy. Soon they began to see him as a threat to their way of life. They plotted to kill him. Jesus knew all this. He also knew that this journey to Jerusalem would be his last. He sent his disciples ahead of him to prepare for his arrival.

Jesus rides into Jerusalem on a donkey.Jesus rides into Jerusalem on a donkey.News spread that Jesus was going to Jerusalem for the Passover festival. Crowds began to gather. Hearing this, Jesus sent his disciples to look for a young donkey. They found one tethered to a doorway, where he had told them it would be. He rode into Jerusalem on its back. The crowds waved palm leaves and laid their coats down in front of him. They shouted “Hosanna! Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord.” The Pharisees could not believe their eyes. Jesus was being welcomed as a Messiah or Saviour. They told each other that this man must be stopped.

The Church of the Holy Sepulchre, Jerusalem, is built on the site of Golgotha (also called Calvary), the place where Jesus was crucified. It also contains the place where Jesus is said to have been buried and resurrected.
