Albatrosses

The albatrosses are a family of large sea birds with hooked beaks. The wandering albatross has the largest wingspan of any living bird. Its long, narrow wings are perfect for gliding and soaring in the winds that blow over the Southern Ocean. The wandering albatross spends its days gliding across the sea, scooping up fish and squid from the water.

Albatrosses and petrels come on to land only when they breed. The rest of their lives are spent gliding on currents of air.
